HOW
DOES TRADITIONAL EASTERN MEDICINE TREAT CHRONIC SINUSITIS?
^top
Traditional Eastern medicine treats chronic sinusitis with a different
perspective from Western Medicine. While western medicine tries to suppress
the symptoms and the inflammation of the nasal mucous membranes, Traditional
Eastern medicine tries to invigorate the bodily immune system and enables
it to fight its own battles much more vigorously thus treating chronic
sinusitis in a more fundamental way.
HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE HELP? ^top
We use acupuncture, herbal medicine and nasal thermal irrigation therapies
especially made for chronic sinusitis patients. These treatments help
your nasal mucous membranes to revitalize the micro-vascular blood flow
and energize the immune functions of the system, thus helping the body
rid of antigens which triggers the inflammation process in the first place.
Acupuncture stimulates Qi that enables it to energize the immune specific
Qi to flow more rigorously into the nasal area. It also indirectly stimulates
the mucous membrane and helps the airway to clear. These functions enable
the patient to feel their symptoms relieved almost instantaneously.
HOW DOES HERBAL MEDICINE HELP?
^top
Herbal medicine is used to treat the fundamental issues that induce chronic
inflammation. In Traditional Eastern Medicine a person usually experience
chronic diseases when his or her organs do not function properly. For
nasal problems, they are commonly linked with excessive phlegm of the
lungs and body fluids. Specially prepared herbal medication is prescribed
to clear this excessive phlegm out of the body.
HOW DOES NASAL IRRIGATION HELP? ^top
Nasal thermal irrigation is also used with chronic sinusitis patients.
This therapy which is also used by Western Medicine is quite effective
and helps invigorate the peripheral blood flow of the nasal membrane.
It also cleans allergens, irritants, bacteria and viruses from the nose.
WHAT DOES NASAL IRRIGATION DO TO HELP SINUSITIS? ^top
Many people with allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma or other lung problems
also have nasal and sinus symtoms. Drainage from your nose and sinuses
can make rhinitis and asthma worse, especially at night. A salt-water
wash or nasal irrigation can help reduce this. A nasal wash;
·- Cleans mucus from the nose so medication is more effective
·- Cleans allergens and irritants from the nose reducing their
impact
- Removes bacteria and viruses from the nose reducing the frequency of
infection
- Decreases swelling in the nose and increases air flow
IS
THERE A WAY TO SIMPLY APPLY THE WARM NASAL IRRIGATION METHOD AT HOME?
^top
- Wash your hands
- Make saltwater, or saline, solution fresh for every nasal wash, using
a clean glass
- To make the saltwater solution, mix one-half teaspoon uniodized salt
in an 8-ounce glass of warm water. uniodized salt is used because iodized
salt may be irritating when used over a long period of time
- Add a pinch of baking soda. A pinch is a small amount you can pick up
between two fingers
- If you are congested, use the entire 8 ounces of saltwater during the
nasal wash; otherwise, 4 ounces should be enough
- Discard any unused saltwater and prepare a new saltwater solution at
the next nasal wash
